Moving forward

There are certain things you can do to help yourself cope with grief. Just remember there are no rules or time limits. Everyone is different. Try and take one day at a time.

Talk to someone.

Talking about your loss can take you on an emotional rollercoaster, however it does help to get it off your chest. Try to share your feelings with someone you feel you can trust.

If you don’t feel comfortable asking someone close to you, think about talking to a counsellor. A professional counsellor can help you reach your own solutions for coping with grief. Your doctor will be able to refer you to a counsellor or you could ask an appropriate support group or helpline to point you in the right direction.

Keeping busy.
Some people find that keeping busy is a good way to work through their grief.  Keeping fit, reading, painting, gardening and surrounding yourself with friends are just some of the things you can do. Just remember not to keep so busy that you hold up the grieving process. Instead, do something you enjoy to give yourself a bit of a breather every now and then.

You might find the healing process a little easier to deal with by creating an online memorial for your loved one. Choose a template for your page, then upload tributes, life stories, photos, videos, music, poems, quotes, whatever you like. This is a way of keeping them close to you throughout your life.
