Choosing pallbearers

Traditionally, the pallbearers for a funeral were mainly family members and all males. These days, it’s totally up to you to decide who you wish to be a pallbearer.

Have a think about those who were closest to your loved one. This may be mostly family, but you can include friends, too.

You may not want to have immediate family act as pallbearers. Sometimes it’s best to keep a grieving family all together and being a pallbearer may be just too much to cope with.

If the decision to choose six people as pallbearers is too difficult, what you could do is ask your funeral director to supply some or all of the pallbearers. This is a common request and something your funeral director will be well equipped for.
